Heating and Electric
One of the most frequently asked questions about the St. Ann Arts and Cultural Center has to do with heating and electrical costs. Heating and electric consumes the largest portion of the Center's budget.
Heating
Every year we dread the approach of winter. With the building's brick and stone structure, when the winter cold sets in the cold becomes locked within the building. The heating season can start as early as late October and run through the end of April. The thermostats are generally set at 50 degrees. Unfortunately, when funds are low, the thermostats are dropped to 45 degrees in order to save money.
The Center heats with oil. The furnace burns upwards of 20 gallons of oil an hour. The oil bill can run $2500 - $3500 per week.

Electric
St. Ann's is a massive space not only to heat but to light as well. We have been doing what we can to replace old style bulbs with energy efficient bulbs as well as replacing some exterior light fixtures with light sensor fixtures. The electrical bill can run $1200 - $2000 per month.
When in use, the main gallery consumes most of the electricity. There are 6 different types of lighting fixtures to illuminate the cavernous space. The ceiling lights, the chandeliers and the ledge lights consume the most. They represent 57,400 watts of electricity. Here is a breakdown:
